Why is our creativity more awake at nights?

If you have troubles getting started in the mornings but you are more awake at nights, or if you suddenly wake up in the middle of the night with a lot of new ideas for your business, you may be interested in learning the scientific explanation for this phenomenon.

There are some researches pointing that people with a high IQ working in creative activities are more productive at nights. But beyond that, scientists have confirmed that there is a type of chemical process that favours brain-activity at nights. The reason is that, during the night, we experience high levels of mental stimulation, which sometimes prevents us from falling asleep.

When resting at night, our mind gets “empty” and thoughts can flow much better. This happens because the chemical substances that provide our brain with energy (adenosine triphosphate) usually increase their levels when we are sleeping. In other words, our brain is more active while we are sleeping because it can use some extra energy to re-organise the connections between our neurons, so it can recover full capacity. That is the reason why we sometimes go to sleep with something troubling us and we awake in the morning with the answer in our head.

On the other hand, even it is preferable to adjust our working-time to our biological rhythms so we can take profit from the moments of highest productivity; it is not always possible to have a flexible schedule. In addition, flexibility can be a double-edged sword: taking some hours off in the morning may extend our working-time until late at night, so we will be more exposed to feel tiresome the morning after.

For all these reasons, it is advisable to have a specific schedule and to turn off the computer from 8 pm; this is because after an intense working day our ability to focus tends to lessen. It can be also useful, in case you want to start your day plenty of energy, to do some exercise or to go out for a morning walk.

In Lexington we are well aware that every person has his/her own rhythm, which indicates his/her more productive hours along the day, so we adapt to our clients requirements providing flexible schedules for offices and meeting-spaces rental. Lexington has several business centres located in the most prosperous business areas of Madrid and Barcelona. Besides, we provide our clients with the latest technology so they can optimize their working days. We can also undertake some of your daily duties in order to reduce your burden of clerical tasks, which will give you some extra time to perform your main activity.

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.
